My thoughts on the TE position

I've been seeing a lot of talk about our TE situation in this sub lately. After seeing u/gdaman22 post the other day I decided to do some research.

I do agree with his points, Witten, Hanna and Swaim will more than likely all be locks. With Escobar and Gathers possibly leaving I feel like we will take a chance and draft someone in this draft considering it is a very good TE draft.

Who I would like to see drafted:

O.J. Howard

Projected Round: 1

Howard would be the best case scenario. I don't think he will end up dropping to us, nor do I think we should spend our first round pick on him. Howard looks like a very solid blocker and pass catcher, if drafted he can come in and contribute immediately.

Bucky Hodges

Projected Round: 2-3

Hodges is an athletic freak that can do a lot of damage in the red zone. He is a great receiver and is a reliable target. He would create a big miss match for teams, my only issue is his blocking. He seems to be able to hold his own but was not asked to block very often. If he improves he can become a real threat in the NFL.

Jake Butt

Projected Round: 3-5

He can run routes, catch and block. Seem like he could be a good mold to replace Witten. If he could come back from his injury he can be a steal for any team that takes him. His blocking still needs to be improved but he is constantly getting better.

Adam Shaheen

Projected Round: 4-5

Another basketball player converted to tight end. Shaheen big tight end that has a lot of speed. His blocking is unknown but will need a couple years of coaching before making an impact on a team.

Jeremy Sprinkle

Projected Round: 4-6

I am a big fan of Sprinkle. He was overshadowed by Hunter Henry for most of his college career but he is still a very good TE. What I like about him is that he is a good blocker and receiver. If he drops far enough for us to take him I think he can be a real good value pick and become the TE we've been looking for.

Eric Saubert

Projected Round: 4-6

A big TE that has good route running and speed. He seems to get separation very easily and uses his big frame to his advantage. If he can improve his blocking he can become a real threat and become our new safety blanket.
