365 Days of Cocktails

I recently read an excerpt from The Wine Bible in which it suggests (if I remember correctly) drinking wine from one region exclusively for 3-6 months to fully grasp the flavor profile of that area.

I was wondering if you all had any suggestions for a similar journey in relation to cocktails and liquor? I'd say at this point I've tried quite a few different varieties of liquor and am starting to develop my palate for both classic and contemporary cocktails but really want to take it to the next step.

Any advice would be appreciated.
