Can I claim flood damage on my taxes? If so, how?

The basement of my house flooded in October when my area caught the outer edge of a hurricane (no real flooding in my area, only heavy rain which saturated the ground and got into the house). Luckily, the only real loss was the carpet that came with the house.

I have no way to know the exact cost of the carpet and padding, but the replacement carpet and padding cost appr. $2000.

Can I claim this on my taxes, and if so, how?
