Crashplan just lost me as a customer
I bought a year's sub for my parents a few years ago. They had a computer, needed someway to make sure it was backed up, seemed easy. So I paid a 1 year sub ($60), got them going and never thought about it again. Never saw another charge, assumed my parents were paying, whatever.
Then on the 3 year anniversary of the initial purchase I get a $150 charge on my card. I contact support and end up having to go through some damn ticketing system rather than be able to talk to someone on the phone.
After a few back and forths, the CSR tells me it's the "result of a user-enabled auto-renew setting." And then I have to message more to get him to tell me its for the damn Family Plan. Which makes no sense since my parents have only 1 PC to backup.
But fine, I'm willing to get it sorted out. I'll have them switch it to a single PC plan, have my parents pay me back for the year and get them to update the CC info. No big deal.
But no, the CSR wants me to (walk my parents through) get my parents to sign in, buy a new subscription, cancel the old one, etc. When none of us initiated a change in the subscription to begin with. Screw that.
Looks like I'm checking out Backblaze or some other provider who can keep their billing system in order.
