Can you guys help me and my friend resolve a debate?

Discussion

Our debate is "is a virtual machine computer different than the host computer?". I say yes, because 1). the VM is unaware of the other computer (sans stuff like Guest Additions) and 2). the VM uses a seperate virtual CPU and RAM which, even though it is derived from the actual CPU and RAM, is its own CPU and RAM.

My friend says no because the virtual stuff is still directly derived from the actual CPU and RAM, so it's a part of the actual CPU and RAM, thus it is indifferent from the actual computer.

What is your opinion on this issue?
