The problem with trying to organize a group project with strangers....

• 34 people expressed interest (in response to a mass email)
• 12 responded to a follow-up email
• 6 filled out a doodle poll to set a time to meet
• 4 were able to make it at the best time
• 0 showed up to meeting

This was not a research project; I get that grad students are very busy and don't always have much time to commit for extracurriculars. But if you aren't interested in working on something, don't sign up for it!
