[Acne] Breaking out? Don't rule out your hair care products!
In November 2016, a good friend, who happens to be my hair stylist, really pushed me to stop using my organic baby hair care products (she felt they were not nourishing my hair enough) and try a salon brand to better support my colored hair. I gave it a try and I was really impressed with the products (Seven hair care is the brand) and used them daily (shampoo, condition, and a heat protectant spray). They honestly were pretty amazing, but...not without a catch of course because, well, you know how life works.
Things seemed to be going along swimmingly until December. I had started to experience breakouts in areas I had not been breaking out prior (forehead, temples, neck, and jawline). I didn't start breaking out in these spots all at the same time, it just started to get worse and worse gradually. Things would heal up somewhat and then come back. I thought maybe it was hormonal and just kept on with everything. Finally in January, I started to develop deeper cystic acne in those areas and as I thought through what I believed to be every possible cause of why I was breaking out, it finally dawned on me...the hair products. I ended up switching back to my baby products and sure enough the breakouts stopped.
I just wanted to share my story in hopes that it may help someone else. In case you are also wondering, through this negative experience there were two positives, first I cleared my skin up and two, I found a natural hair care line that treats my hair even better than the salon brand and my baby products without causing breakouts (for those interested, the brand is called 100% Pure Cosmetics).
