Just me that felt bad after killing the boss in 1-6

Spoilers here - really felt bad after my duel with this guy, the first part he goes out to defend his people, second part the wolves dying just sounds really bad and the bit that really gets me is the last two sections - when he runs through the gate and three soldiers tell him to go and they will delay for him. You run through and he is kneeled in front of his home (forgot the name), watching it burn, his sword on the floor nearby, until you slide it to him and end his life in a final battle.
