Is Whatsapp horrible for you guys too?

I got a 7 plus about 2 months ago and the thing that I can't stand is the Whatsapp app (we don't use iMassage in my country). It lags horribly. If I try to open an image from a conversation and the app has been idle for a while, it takes up to 3 seconds to open the image. Is this normal?
