LPT Request: Contacting old mates/acquaintances to talk shop or ask info about a job

Good evening all,

A facebook friend posted a job offer, his organisation is looking for a "communication whiz". At my current internship, I'm responsible for posting on our social media, contacting people, communicating with some of our partners, and I think I'd really like working in this line in the future.

So I've had a look at the job description but I'm not familiar with some of the terms they use, as I study translation but have never had "real" communication classes.

I would like to contact the guy to ask him more info, maybe some tips like which skills I should work on/classes I should take if I wanted to land a job like this one, but I'm not too sure on how to go about it. I haven't seen or talked to him in 10 years, but I don't wanna sound too cheesy or awkward since the job is for an expert in communication so I should probably know how to write this kind of message right?
