WP Devs, What's your WordPress Workflow look like? What tools do you use to make WP painless?

I've got a few potential WordPress clients, and I've been switching back and forth between OS X and Linux. I'd really like to fully move to Linux, and I'm looking for a workflow for WordPress dev that doesn't suck. Sometimes I'm migrating sites, sometimes just making a change to a plugin or theme, just your typical WordPress dev. Cloning to a local server, editing, pushing changes to their server, etc...

I'd like to hear what you do to make WP dev as painless as possible.

On Mac I tried "DesktopServer"/"ServerPress" but I had a couple issues with it, but maybe that was user error.

So do you use Docker somehow, or some WP plugin? Xammp/Mammp? something else?
