I (29f) have asked my husband (31m)for a seperation. Am i doing the right thing?

Breakups

So the basics:

Lovely guy, doesn't cheat, beat or abuse me. However is just a shitty husband and father to our kids (6m&f). Constantly on his tablet, doesn't help them with anything unless I demand it of him eg, homework, playtime, crafts etc.

I've had mentally abusive relationships in the past and have realised that just because he doesn't abuse me does not mean that I have to settle for the other option. Financially and emotionally the support is non existent.

On average I have a mini breakdown every few months. We have been married for 6 years, together for ten and I cannot take the lack of our relationship anymore. Each time I beg him to help and work on us I get promises that never get followed up on. He's quite lazy and inconsiderate when it comes to work and emotions but he is not a bad man.

I feel at this point, while I do love him, that it's not healthy for my kids to grow up in a house where they feel like they are in his way or seeing their mother unhappy in her marriage. I think it may be better for them to realise that I am a happier person but their daddy won't be living with us anymore.

At this moment it's been a week since I asked him to leave and packed his stuff for him. He hasn't made contact to ask how the kids are unless I bring it up.

He is more than aware of my feelings as this conversation has happened on more than one occassion (see:mini breakdowns) and still nothing has changed.

TL;DR husband is a good man, but not a good father and husband. Feelings of guilt clouding my judgement after asking for separation.
