Since berries and medals change circle color now, I used them to verify the gamepress "Grand Unified Catch Theory"
Like the title says. The gamepress theory is now easy to test, since the real catch rate can be found directly from the color of the inner circle.
I took screenshots of catching a pidgey with every combination of ball and berry. I used the RGB values to find the %catch rate. These are the predicted vs measured outcomes:
| Sampled | GUCT | Error |
|---|---|---|
| 33.92% | 33.97% | 0.05% |
| 46.27% | 46.35% | 0.08% |
| 56.47% | 56.40% | -0.07% |
| 46.27% | 46.35% | 0.08% |
| 60.78% | 60.70% | -0.08% |
| 71.18% | 71.21% | 0.03% |
GUCT is very very close. The error could just be from some +-1 in the RGB values I sampled, or some rounding in the GUCT formula.
I tried getting a better fit by rounding the pokeball catchrate and the exponent in GUCT, each with round(), ceil(), or floor(), with precision of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 decimal places. While certain combinations yielded less error than the unrounded GUCT, they only halved the error or so, and they were not "intuitive" combinations. So I have no good results in terms of how the GUCT formula might round.
