Is it possible to wire up a resonant low pass filter in a guitar or bass?

I've had this idea that I think would be pretty cool and haven't seen any videos or pictures of online, but I have no idea how practical it would be. Instead of putting a standard tone knob in a guitar or bass, I was thinking of somehow putting a resonant low pass filter in one, sort of like a filter you would have on a synthesizer. Do any of you know if this would be practical, or at least possible? Maybe if it's possible, putting in a band pass or high pass filter too would be cool.
