Pumpkin and cucumber seeds not sprouting

I've been trying to sprout cucumber and pumpkin seeds for a couple weeks. And then one or two will come up. But after waiting for a couple weeks I assumed something was wrong and dug up the seeds that didn't pop. They look. Normal but when I squeeze them a gross thick white pus comes out. It definitely doesn't smell right, but it's not putrid. This happened to pumpkins along with 2 or 3 cultivars of cukes. Tried to google it but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
