How do you and your spouse split up waking vs sleeping?

I am returning to work next week and was thinking of broaching the subject of us both taking a turn in the guest room each night.

I work from 8am-4:30pm and have about a 15 minute commute, I'm also a big fan of cooking and doing the dishes for some reason, the kitchen is a place I kind of enjoy, it's still definitely work but I find it relaxing. So taking into account my kitchen duties I'm busy from around 7:45am till 6pm.

I thought I would suggest that I handle feeding, diapers, soothing from 8pm-2am and then my wife will take 2am on. That way I can get 5-6 hours of sleep a night and we can adjust from there if it's not working.

Any moms have any thoughts on this plan? I don't want to get in trouble for bringing it up but would like to attempt some sort of schedule where we both get a bit of uninterrupted sleep.
