The steam services over the Settle & Carlisle railway were brilliant.
For those who missed it, Northern Rail replaced their usual rattling cages between Skipton and Appleby with steam haulage for three days, behind A1 60163 "Tornado" - and it not only ran perfectly, but drew massive crowds to the line to raise awareness of it's imminent reopening following a landslip in 2015.
For all their bad press, the folks at Northern Rail deserve praise for putting this together and putting the railway back on the map in style.
