Caught Gen 2 Pokemon Are Not What They Appear

So far I've only caught three Gen 2. Sounds cool and all, except one turned into a Poliwag and one turned into a Staryu. They had the same CP as the Gen 2 pokemon that appeared to be caught (Hoot-Hoot and Natu). Anyone else having this issue?
