Beware of False Doctrines
False doctrines are everywhere, and it is up to the believer to find them and clear them up with the Word of God. I came across this shocking false doctrine by a well known author and I would like to show the extreme error of this teaching.
“I think that every prayer which is sincerely made even to a false god, or to a very imperfectly conceived true God, is accepted by the true God and that Christ saves many who do not think they know him. For He is (dimly) present in the good side of the inferior teachers they follow. In the parable of the Sheep and Goats those who are saved do not seem to know that they have served Christ.” -C.S. Lewis
This is extremely untrue and a very dangerous doctrine. The Word of God says the extreme complete opposite. Be very careful about accepting the teachings and doctrines of men over what the Bible says. God clearly said to search the scripture to see if these things be so, and to test the spirits to see if they are of God. Don't just accept anything someone says all because they are a "learned individual", check everything they say with the Word of God. Therefore let's take a look at what the Word of God says about this teaching by C.S. Lewis -
So what He's saying then is that you can serve any god in the world, pray to any god in the world, follow any form of religion in the world and you will be unknowingly serving the true Lord God and will be unknowingly saved and will go to Heaven!? This is such blasphemous heresy I'm actually stunned.
Here's just a few passages that refute that doctrine.
-
Mark 7:6-9) He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
-
1Corinthians 10:19-21) What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
-
Luke 4:8) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
-
1 Corinthians 10:20) But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
-
Deuteronomy 12:30-32) Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
-
1 Corinthians 10:14) Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
-
John 4:24) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
-
Exodus 34:14-17) For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
-
1Thessalonians 5:21-22) Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.
And to blatantly prove my point clearly:
#1John 4:1-3) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
A person will only be saved if they accept and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, otherwise they will die in condemnation. "Our righteousness is as filthy rags" and will not merit the favor of God. Only the righteousness of Christ will cover our sins and cleanse us in the eyes of God. Only the shed blood of the Lamb of God will save the souls of men, and only Him alone and no other God can save mankind.
#Acts 4:12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
C.S. Lewis has strayed into a very dark and dangerous realm with that statement, he has given validity, value, worth, and merit to every false religion and construct of belief in the world, even the blatant evil ones by the genericness of his statement. So what about Hinduism, Greek mythology of the huge pantheon of gods, the Viking pantheon of gods, or even Mormonism, or what about the goddesses of Witchcraft? Praying to any false god or imperfectly conceived idea of a true god is the same as praying to the Almighty God? Blasphemy! Heresy!
There is only 1 God, and the world is held and controlled by Him, and any other thing that sets itself up in the place of God declaring that it is God is an Antichrist, a doctrine of devils, and is to be avoided.
Be not deceived, search the scriptures daily, know what it is that you believe, and do not accept any teaching or idea without first checking it with the Word of God. Even Satan can appear as an angel of light, and even he can use scripture to twist the meaning so to twist the mind, he tried it with Christ and failed.
- 2Corinthians 11:14-15) And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Always back up all your opinions, thoughts, and beliefs with scripture, that way you can never be mislead. Anything you come across in teachings, ideas, thoughts, opinions, or beliefs, if it contradicts even 1 part of Scripture, then that teaching, idea, thought, opinion, or belief is wrong and the Word of God is right. Let God be true and every man a liar, for God cannot lie and in Him is no darkness. He is Holy, Just, Fair, True, and Righteous, and we are but mortal sinners saved by grace, and in ourselves is no good thing. Therefore we must hold to His absolute truth for all wisdom, reason, and knowledge. Therefore trust the Word of God and you will not go wrong.
