Changing lamotrigine manufacturers - issues/tips?

Hi all - looking for tips re: how to switch between lamotrigine manufacturers and minimize mood episodes. Also curious if anybody else has had bad experiences.

My insurance has raised prices and I've gotta use Caremark's mail order service due to the increase in price. Different manufacturer - I've taken Teva for 5 years now and Caremark provides Zydus.

I work in healthcare, I've always poo-poo'd the idea of generics differing from brand names, I know that the FDA requires that generics contain the same amount of active ingredient, and there are a bunch of reputable published studies in 2015-2016 showing bioequivalence with different lamotrigine manufacturers in patients with epilepsy.

That said... I had a mixed mood episode that corresponded to the first week I switched manufacturers, and I'm usually really stable this time of year. Luckily I have enough of the Teva lamotrigine left to do a more controlled switch. Can't rule out the possibility that I just had an unusual mood episode, but it was really unusual for me. Psychiatrist thinks that it could have been adjusting to the new formulation.

Anybody else have this issue? Any suggestions for how to switch manufacturers without going crazy?
