Shugoki Question (don't upvote)

I was playing against a shugoki, and I could feel the grabbing back break incoming, so I naturally dodged to the right, but when I did, he auto-shifted to match my dodge and continued to charge, and pick me up and kill me. Is this how his grab naturally works or was it a connection issue on my part?
