Game crashed and won't open again.. really?

So the game was working fine a few hours ago. I just caught my first gen 2 Pokémon and was excited! But now the game crashed and isn't opening. Can Niantic really be dumb enough to not be ready for the player influx that's to come with the release of gen2...??
