Rebinding controller buttons so they make sense
Hi all! So Ubisoft put a little set of ini files related to controls in For Honor. However, their recommended way doesn't work at all, and my way does. So I'm gonna teach you how to rebind all of your controller's buttons!
First, note that this is for a ps4 controller, the steps are the same but the process will involve changing some values to other values if you want to change a different controller. Xbox controllers can also be rebound. Also understand that this is based off of the Xbox360 controller scheme, which is quite dumb. Now on to the tutorial.
Optional Step: Install Notepad++ because why the fuck not? Everyone should have this amazing piece of software which makes life so much easier.
Step 1: Open up legacygamepads.ini (For Honor main folder under Program Files x86) and legacygamepads_user.ini (look under documents, then my games)
Step 2: Find your controller in the list of them in legacygamepads.ini
Step 3: For future reference, copy this list and place it into the second file you opened. This file does nothing ATM, but might later and you will want the first control scheme saved here since this file will not be overridden. To be safe, put a # before every line which makes it a comment (no effect). Keep this one at hand since we will need it later again.
Step 3: In legacygamepads.ini, change whatever you want following the equal sign (the DI_BTN_# stuff is what you want). I'll show my current config and the original PS4 config for demonstration. Another important note, when finished with your new bindings, copy them into legacygamepads_user.ini so if they overwrite this file, which they claim they might, you won't lose your work.

My second one is weird to get used to, but it basically addresses all of the shortcomings of the dumb original control scheme. To be precise, L3 is now dodge which feels surprisingly natural, R3 is now cancel so heavy attack cancelling is easier. Sprint has been moved to X and R3's weird look reset is now on O. Most importantly, guardbreak is now bound to L1.
With this control scheme, you can guard, move, attack, cancel heavies, dodge, and guardbreak without moving your fingers. I didn't mess with L2 because it functions a little differently, but I strongly recommend setting it to be toggle lock on in the game's options menu in game.
