Couple looking to move to the Boston area for postgraduate study. I got into Northeastern, he got into Tufts. Where should we live?

We are both from DC and don't know much about Boston. The two schools seem kind of far apart, but we do have a car. We would want somewhere affordable and relatively quiet. What neighborhoods should we consider?
