Is there a time where you watch an anime not at the suitable age?

Believe me, I accidentally watched Gintama 8 years ago because of my older brother, and at that time I am still 10 years old. I am so damn confused and wtf happen in my mind because the first scene I watch at that young age is the episode where the legendary Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong appear. My mind was so pure although i suspect why does this cannon is too much familiar. But then my brother tell me the truth. For a 10 years old, it is too much for me to handle. After I have matured enough, I start to search for that show again and watched it until now. My childhood has been destroyed...
