My [25 M] (ex)girlfriend [24 F] broke up with me, we want to keep being friends but I don't want to suffer enough.
Context:
My girlfriend started showing signs of unhappiness when we hit one year into the relationship, on our first big argument, around six months ago, she was very honest to tell me what was bothering her, and the main points were, I wasn't spontaneous enough, I didn't show enough affection and we hung out alone a lot, we should go out with friends and more people. I agreed with her, I needed to show her I loved her and cared for her and I should think less about everything and be more spontaneous around her.
From that point on, there wasn't a single weekend we hung out by ourselves, we went out with my friends, her friends, family, it was great, I found it very hard trying to be more spontaneous in a natural way, and not making it seem like I was forcing it, but I tried, and in a lot of ways, I succeed, I knew there was a lot more to get better at, but I always made sure to tell her that she should feel comfortable talking to me about anything, and I with her.
But our relationship kept fluctuating from good to bad, I know this is my point of view, and it's influenced by my opinions and feelings, but I really feel like she was trying to find reasons to make me the bad guy, anything I did, from good mornings to I love you's, there was something wrong with them and I had to think a thousend times before sending anything because I didn't want to make a bad relationship worse.
We had a fight three days before Valentine's Day, and we decided to continue being in a relationship but giving each other more space and time, to think and breath a little, this lasted for three days, I was planning to call her on lunch to wish us a Happy Valentine's Day, but at 10am she sent me a message saying she was very confused and wondering why I didn't wish her a Valentine's Day yet. She said she wanted to talk.
Yesterday, we talked for hours, she said she was freaking out, she was going against everything, I told her how I felt she was only seeing the bad side of things and how I couldn't said anything because she would find something wrong with it, she didn't want to say the words "I want to break up" and I avoid it for hours, we danced around the subject, finding new things to argue about, until I conceded and we as a couple ended, we did it in good terms.
Problem:
This brings me to today, as much as I still like her and would 100% to keep trying to make our relationship work out, I can see myself waiting for her to come back, regret, change her mind and I can't allow myself to let that happen, I want to be free, I would like to get back on Tinder, go to parties and not feel bad because I'm doing this too soon or too late, because I know that she is the one that decides when the time is right to get back out there, when she does, it will be the right time, but when I do, it may be too soon, it may start another fight and this is the last thing I want.
I told her I don't how I will be able to look at her facebook or instagram and see her with another guy, but at the same time, I was worried about losing a person in my life that shares the same interests as me, goes to the same places, and I don't want to be the guy that avoids his ex girlfriend, but at the same time, I really don't want to be the guy that waits for her forever and thinks about his ex girlfriends feelings before taking every step of his life.
TL;DR: We broke up, but I don't want to lose her completely, but I also don't want to suffer any more because of her.
