Car registration and tickets.

(Maryland) So I bought a car from a guy who told me his car was registered and insured. He told me I could use his plates if I returned to him after registering it in my name. I drove the car and parked it. The car got towed because it turns out the car wasn't registered like he said it was. After picking up the car from the impound there were tickets printed out for the car with his name on it for not having registration, driving without registration, intent to hide the identity of a car and a few more. Now I want to know. Who's really in trouble for this? Do I go to court or does he? Will the blame get shifted to me? I have text showing that I can use his plates and also that I can come and bring them back to him. I have titles the car after getting it from the impound and registered if that helps.
