The Golem is a sizable investment. Where does it really shine for the price?

Just trying to educate myself a bit on the Golem.

There are many out there, but I find a number of posts saying that for the price it doesn't really have a place. I find it hard to accept that something so valuable doesn't have a strong role to play at least somewhere!
