A compilation of my experiences at abandoned military facilities, a mine, a mansion and my grandparents house
Here is my first story. Ill post the first 2 in the body of this post and the other 3 in the comments just to break up the reading a little bit.
Buckner Building in Whittier, Alaska.
Whittier itself is creepy enough. It's a small town filled with drunk fishermen, homeless people, and random blue collar workers. The town also has a lot of mining, fishing, military and native history. The only way into the town is through a one way, 3 mile tunnel carved into the mountain.
The Buckner Building is the oldest building in the town and is now condemned, decrepit, and fenced off. It was originally a large barracks for the military, then became a hospital and then turned into a giant apartment complex for the entire population of the town. Eventually a new apartment building and some motels were set up and the Buckner Building was abandoned
My ex and I decided that we were going to break into it and explore. Technically a felony but plenty of people do it. Graffiti, litter, homeless shelters, remnants of ghetto parties are everywhere.
We show up at like 2 am with only our phones as flashlights. We sneak through a break in the fence and go in through a big busted down wall that leads into the first floor. IMMEDIATELY I feel off. The air is thick and it constantly feels like someone is right behind me (I was in the back). She feels it too. Despite this we push on. Going through some more rooms we start hearing noises. Not noises like dripping water or our footsteps, but shuffling, and doors opening and closing. We look around for potential homeless people but after scanning almost the entire first floor we realize we are the only ones there. We eventually get to this long hallway where you can basically see from one side of the building to the other (or you could if it wasn't dark). Both of us heard a relatively loud whisper coming from the end of the hallway. It's worth mentioning that at this point I have so much pressure on my chest I can barely breathe. Its at this point my ex suggested we turn around.
We go back to entrance and sit on a concrete slab (still inside the building) to have a smoke before we go home. While we are smoking I pull out a bootleg ouija board I had made earlier. We ask it a few questions and get the strongest response either of us had ever received from a board. I don't remember all the questions but I remember the responses were super dark and aggressive. My ex had this weird fascination with the number 27 and when she asked the board what it meant, it said something along the lines of "love - death - you - die"
We finished our cigarettes, said goodbye to the board and to the building. As we turn towards the hole in the wall from whence we came, their is an enormous crash from behind us. We booked it out and as I broke the threshold of the wall I felt a physical force push me out of the building and I lost my footing. It felt like a big gust of wind almost grabbed me and moved me out of the building.
We ran out to the road and calmed down for maybe 30 seconds before we heard blood curdling screaming coming from about a mile down the pitch black road. It sounded like someone was being murdered except the screaming was moving towards us. We both ran all the way to her car and noped the fuck out of that town. Ended up back at her dorm around 5 am for some aggressive and adrenaline filled love making. So the night turned out okay.
Regardless, fuck Whittier and fuck the Buckner Building.
Second story, abandoned Hercules Missile site, Arctic Valley, Alaska
So there's this common hiking and skiing area near Anchorage called Arctic Valley. Pretty easy terrain and lots of families go there. If you go off the beaten path there are some unnoficial trails beat out by people exploring. My old college roommate, a high school buddy and myself decided to follow one of these trails to the peak of the specific mountain we were on.
About 3/4 of the way up we notice a sign that basically said "DO NOT CROSS THIS POINT. MILITARY PROPERTY. VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED". So what did we do? Crossed it of course.
After a bit of walking we found a road. Along this road were 3 or 4 emptied out missile silos. After successfully breaking into a couple of them we decided to follow the road around the mountain. When we came around the bend it was revealed to us that we were on a full blown military facility. We were looking at a fenced in area maybe 1 or 2 square miles large.
After some figuring out, we found a break in the fence and infiltrated the facility. It wasn't much to look at really. Most of the buildings were rusted out, chipped paint, tagged, and were probably filled with asbestos. We tried to break into a few smaller buildings but only found success with the largest building. Oh, also by this point we knew it was an old Hercules Missile site, by the emblems and logos painted on most buildings. Anyways, the top level of this structure is what I can only imagine was a staging area for the missiles. We delved deeper into the building and came across a metal staircase that led to the second and third subterranean levels. My roommate got scared but me and my buddy went down with our flashlights. The second level didn't have much to it, except trash, insulation and other assorted junk all over. My friend went back upstairs but I wanted to go deeper so I went to the third subterranean level. It was essentially a tunnel system with a few open rooms. This is where is starts to get creepy.
It immediately got bone chilling cold. Now yes, I was underground and we were in the mountains, however it was roughly 80 degrees outside that day, and I had been hiking all day so I was pretty warm already. I could see my breath on this level, but not the one directly above me. I started to get the feeling that I was being watched. I was about to turn around but curiousity compelled me to look down one last tunnel. What I saw will chill me forever. Before I shined my light down the tunnel, I saw in the darkness what looked like a hunched over dog, walking on its hind legs, zip from one side of the tunnel to the other. I immediately shouted "HEY" in my deepest and loudest voice and pumped up my chest, as my first thought was a mangy bear somehow found its way in there. But when I shined my light I saw what looked like a human head, with long hair, and enormous yellow eyes, staring at me from around the corner. The only thing about this creature that was illuminated was it's eyes. Despite my light being pinned directly at it, all I saw of this thing was a silhouette. We locked eyes and started at each other for what felt like 5 minutes at least. Further down the tunnel there was a noise of something falling and it spooked whatever I was looking at and it hid from around the corner. Once it's eyes were off me I high-tailed it out of there screaming my grown ass off.
I told my friends what I saw and they were convinced it was a crazy homeless person or some type of animal but I just don't know man. After this some gunshots coming from the shooting range on base scared us off so we went back to the dorms and marathoned Harry Potter
