Couple ineligible to work (temporary) - use credit cards, loans, early IRA withdrawl or public assistance?
Both people in my household- my fiance and I - currently are uneligble to work. I have a medical issue, he is not yet a legal resident until we get married and apply for Green card. What options am I left with to avoid running out of money for necessities? Credit cards, personal loans, early withdrawl of funds in my IRA, and public assistance are all the options I have heard of, but aside from credit cards, I have not taken advantage of them so far. Public assistance seems like an obvious next step, but am I missing anything? Would it be better to stop using credit cards for now or keep using them until we gain employment? Loans seem too risky, and I know nothing about withdrawing my IRA money but if it is wiser than carrying too much credit debt I would like to know.
