PSA: Ineedyouraddress.com was better for me than paperlesspost for address collection/STD

I just wanted to share this tip for anyone who is wanting to collect addresses of their guests and/or send electronic save-the-dates. I first started working with paperless post after seeing that recommended on this sub. While I did really have fun picking out the template for the STD, I became frustrated with a few of the limitations of the site:

  1. You have to have people's email addresses in order to send it to them. I don't have email addresses of more than half of our guest list, so that was a huge problem. Also, for those people who I did have their email I had to go hunting for it in my various email accounts. That was super annoying. I'd already sunk some time into picking out our template and uploading a picture, so I went ahead and sent it to people I did have emails for, but wanted to find a different option for other people whose email I didn't have.

  2. I was also frustrated because for some people the paperless post email was getting caught in their spam filter. So I still have a few people who haven't seen it yet.

  3. Even for those who I did have their email address, it did make it past the spam filter so they saw it, some of those people still didn't fill in their mailing address! Paperless post sends the STD card in the body of the email and there's a button that says "View the Card" that they have to click in order to be taken to the full info which has the location of the event and is where people fill out their addresses. I even included a little message telling people to click on "View the Card", but that clearly didn't work because several people have received the card but did not fill in their mailing address. Ugh.

So I went hunting for a different solution. I came across Ineedyouraddress.com which allows you to create a link that you can then send to people anyway you want. You can make the link be whatever you want. We used Ineedyouraddress.com/myfirstnameandFHfirstname We mostly sent it to people via facebook, but you could also text people the link as well. They click the link and they are immediately taken to a place where they can input their names as they want to be called (including titles) and other information you want to collect (we had them fill in their kids names and email addresses as well as the mailing address). The downside of this site is that they don't have cute STD templates, but I kinda did a (probably shady) work-around for that. It lets you upload pictures that display at the top of the website when people click on the link. So I took a screenshot of our paperless post STD and then uploaded that as an image on the ineedyouraddress.com website. Boom! (Sshhh don't tell paperless post). Nearly everybody we sent the link to submitted their address that day or the next day. Then I just downloaded the addresses and other info as an excel sheet and pasted it into my master guest list spreadsheet.

Anyway, just wanted to let others know about this site in case you hadn't heard of it and might find it useful. It was nice to get electronic STDs and address collection done all-in-one very quickly without requiring hunting down people's email addresses.

Edit: formatting. Also a side note---wtf is up with people making typos when writing out their own names when they enter their info in there!? That was silly and made me chuckle. Anybody else have their guests get their own names wrong?
