Against Ranged Champions, Should I start Ruby Crystal?

Since I won't be doing much against them levels 1-3, should I forgo the long sword entirely and just start crystal two pots, then rush a Kindle Gem for the CDR (and Black Cleaver)? Or do I still go the old Caufields?
