Gun safe/cohabitation law thought exercise.

If I owned long guns, and my roommate owned long guns could we store said guns in a safe where we both had the combination? Both roomate and I would be eligible parties for ownership aka not prohibited persons.

Also if I ceased to live with that same roommate how long before I would need to transport the long guns from the shared safe, if at all?
