What are your top 3 choices for our 1st round pick
I've been watching a lot of film on the edge rushers, defensive tackles and safeties that could be available at 31 since I think those are our biggest needs. I have watched a few of the guards like Feeney and Lamp but I wouldn't take them at 31. So here are my top 3 players I'd want us to take if they are available.
1.) Budda Baker - Washington FS
I know this is an uncoventional choice but this is one of my favorite players in this year's draft and if you put on his film, you'll immediately know why. Budda flies around from all over the field with the speed and ferocity that Quinn and his staff covets. Baker has incredible ball skills and range when playing deep and he's not shy about coming down and sticking his nose in for a tackle. He'd be a perfect fit in our cover 3 scheme and would give us the ball hawk that's needed to play Quinn's scheme at the highest level.
2.) Malik McDowell - Michigan State DE/DT
McDowell is a massive defensive lineman that has a lot of positional versatility to play anywhere from strong side end to 3 technique to even nose when needed. Malik is a strong, long and surprisingly quick for his size but he doesn't take advantage of his length often enough because of poor hand usage. The biggest knock on McDowell is his inconsistent motor and a lack of pass rush moves. He would definitely be a risk but I think our locker room and coaches could get the most out of him and if he reaches his potential he will wreak havoc.
3.) Caleb Brantley - Florida DT
Brantley is one of the more popular picks for the Falcons at 31 and for good reason. Brantley is a slightly undersized, explosive 3 technique who is constantly in the backfield. He has powerful, quick hands and rushes the passer well from the inside. Brantley wins with quickness and penetration rather than being stout against double teams. My only hesitation in taking him is that we already have an undersized DT with Grady but I think Brantley would be a great pick regardless because of his explosiveness and his knack of living the the opposing teams backfield.
