Cow's Milk Protein Allergy (?) and mental health

About a month ago, we took DD in to her pediatrician (a week before her 2 month well baby appointment) because she had mucous in her poo and gas pains. The doctor tested for blood in her stool and didn't find any, but put me on a dairy-free diet because an allergy to cow's milk protein is apparently the most common cause for these snotty looking diapers. She warned that it might take up to a month before we would see results because it takes awhile for milk to work its way out of my system, and then the baby's.

I went back to work this week, and DH stayed home Monday so that I could have a day back without having the trauma of taking her to daycare on top of it. Instead of breaking out the stash of frozen breastmilk, he used mostly the hypoallergenic formula the doctor gave us --I guess so that we could save the frozen milk for daycare?--and when I got home he said she'd been great all day. A lot less fussy than usual, and less gassy. So we took the formula to daycare the next day, too, and she's been eating nothing else all week. The daycare people say she hardly ever fusses with them, and her poo seems more like "cottage cheese" than snot. It also allows DH to help more with nighttime feedings.

So as things stand now, I don't get to see my LO all day long, I'm working hard to keep pumping all the time to keep my supply up just in case we might be able to go back to BF (even though I feel like it's probably pointless), and I don't get the chance to reconnect with her through nursing in the evenings. I've been in tears daily because there is just so much emotion--not to mention hormones--wrapped up in breastfeeding. It doesn't help that DD was born via emergency c-section and I feel like my body just isn't capable of all those amazing things that it's supposed to magically, naturally be able to do. I know this isn't really related to the BF issue, but it tends to become part of the negative self-talk when I'm feeling low.

I guess what I'm looking for here is other people's experiences with CMPA or the symptoms DD experienced, and maybe a little reassurance that I'm doing things right. I want to go back to BF, but what if the allergy was misdiagnosed and my milk just makes her feel sick again because she's really sensitive or allergic to something else? I want to do everything I can to keep my girl happy and healthy!
