Why not "angular generation 2"?

I keep hearing in podcasts the difficulty people are having switching from saying angular 2 to just angular. I understand why we can't say angular 2 bc there will be about 2 major versions per year with semver. But calling 2 and up just angular is not natural and doesn't work. Why not call anything past 1.x angular generation 2? I think that would clear up this confusion.
