What Risk / Reward Ratios do you use?
I'm fairly new to options. Went through the unfortunate 'prerequisite' of burning my account(s) down buying naked calls and puts and betting on movements in impossibly complex underlying instruments ($SPY). I'm down about $20k from starting position, most of it through long, naked option bets gone wrong.
I'm just starting on spreads and I'm wondering what kind of risk / reward you folks use for consistent returns (small, UT consistent across multiple underlying instruments).
For example, I'm looking into 40-60 DTE spreads and complex orders (IC's) and selling .30 Delta. I find I'm risking $4-5 for a credit of $1. Is this normal?
How can I do better? Am I even asking the right questions? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
(On IB TWS, $10k capital).
