Degunking plastic.

So I recently picked up an air box for my bike from a junkyard and it is all gunked up but in good condition. There are some really gunky parts that I cannot even reach with a tooth brush. Is there a solution I can submerge this in to make it come off easier that wouldn't harm the plastic? Maybe just carwash soap?
