2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i squealing when accelerating and rattling when letting off the gas.

I bought a Subaru Legacy today. My mistake was not winding the windows down when I took a test drive. It's a 5 speed manual transmission. When I accelerate or change gears, there is a squealing noise coming from the front end. When i let off the gas, it makes this horrible, loud rattling noise. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
