Pack size question

Here's some food for thought that I just came across while preparing for a hike this weekend and I wanted to ask Ultralight what they think.

Here's the situation, everything I need for the weekend fits inside a 22L pack, albeit a little tight (~9 lb base weight). Would it be more beneficial to take a slightly larger 36L pack compressed down with straps that I can spread the weight out along my back more efficiently and take the small hit in increased weight from the larger pack?
