I find that streaming video is much clearer on my cell phone over wifi than on my laptop over wifi. Is there any way I can improve the video quality on my laptop?

I am no expert but it seems to me that my fairly good quality windows laptop should be able to stream at least as well as my iphone, but it isn't even close. Is this normal or is there something I can change to improve stream quality on my laptop?
