Posts directly or indirectly asking for reassurance.

I've noticed there have been an influx of posts where people come in here and ask things like "am I gay? Am I a pedo or OCD? Is this thing dirty? Do I want to actually kill someone? Am I going crazy"

If you say anything other than, "maybe maybe not, you gotta be able to live with the possibility that you are"

Or to trigger the person with "Yeh you totally are" you're not helping. You are helping the OCD loop. Reassurance is probably the easiest compulsion to identify. Help people by giving them your experiences of what has worked etc. Not by saying "if you're scared of losing your mind, you won't" that is a reassuring statement.

My therapist (who also has OCD) says her mantra is "so what, if?"

So what if you're gay, so what if you're a pedo, so what if you really want to kill people, you will inevitably have to deal with that at some point as terrifying as that is. In the meantime you can help yourself by exposing yourself to your greatest fears, and not performing compulsions afterwards. This will help immensely. If your worst fears end up coming true? Well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Scary as fuck, I know.
