What are your weird criteria for buying makeup?

I have a strong bias against anything that has packaging with clear plastic or gold trim, due to how easily it gets scratched and how tacky I think it looks, respectively.

I have a strange preference towards lipsticks that come in squared off packaging rather than round, I find it easier to hold when applying.

What are your quirks when buying makeup?
