Out of curiosity, is there any builds out there that utilise an extra gear between the motor and propeller?
Something similar to cheap toy quads like the syma x5, the motor pinion gear is connected to a much larger spur gear that turns the props. This generates more torque and less speed.
But I see you guys talking about lower kV motors having more torque and higher kV more speed. And having to compromise one over the other.
Though wouldn't having a low kV motor like 1000kv connected through a much higher gearing to achieve the speed you want give you both worlds?
Wouldn't it achieve torque and speed or am I thinking of this all wrong?
I know with rc cars, you can never get both parts as wheel spin would make it useless. But with quads being in the air, that doesn't matter right? Maybe one bladed props with some sort of counterweight?
This question is purely out of curiosity, I don't plan on building anything of this sorts.
