Vive controller ribbon cable directly related to connection and tracking issues.
I'll start off by saying that this my first post so I'm fairly open to my persecution becasue of my ill-knowledge of Reddit etiquette.
I bought my system brand new in June 2016 from the HTC vive website and received it within the month.
My issue started early on and proceeded to worsen through use. My issue included one of my controllers not pairing and the trackpad losing it's "click" in some spots (I was able getting it to force pair which resulted in the controller not being tracked). The issue was intermittent, most time I wouldn't see any issues, other times, it took hours before it could get it to work. I decided I was a decent enough tech that I could void my warranty and fix it myself (seeing how the RMA process and solutions were not desirable). I opened the controller, replaced the rubber pad and superglued it in it's place. Then, to my horror, I found that the ribbon cable that is responsible for the bluetooth and tracking was severely bent. I found that there was some sharpie marking on the bend that looked as though someone at HTC had noticed the bend, and wrote it off as a "good to go". While I tried to carefully straighten the bend, I noticed that there was a hole beginning to form and then the cable easy ripped. My $130 ($180 w/shipping and tax) controller is now worthless.
Don't get me wrong, I love valve's products and will continue to buy their products. I understand this stuff is very new and not to expect perfection.
I had seen on many forums of people having the same issues as I have and thought it was important to share my find.
Hope this helps.
