Energy tokens

Last year I made a really fun [[isperia, supreme judge]] flyers deck that was based around having lots of big sphinx and angels, and doing stuff like [[brine elemental]] and [[subjugator]] to gett attacks through.

It ran [[medomai the ageless]] and [[identity thief]] for a (conditional) infinite turn combo, but the rest was just fun azorius cards that draw lots of cards and buff my flyers.

One fun card I kind of played around was [[umbilicus]] which was cool because I had a few morph creatures I really liked, and it was a really fun way to play them. Another card was [[arcum's whistle]] which was kind of weird, but flavorful with the commander, so I went with it.

Anyway, over the past while I swapped out a bunch of cards from it for newer decks, and it kind of went to the back of the line for a while.

Last night I pulled it out again, and over the 3 games, it just didn't play like it used to. I got trounced. I guess I took out a few of the [[aetherspouts]] type combat tricks that had protected me before, and it didn't work out very well.

So this morning I was looking to improve it, and I found a couple of cards I got at the last prerelease I went to, and they seemed like they'd be cool with isperia, at least in this deck.

One is [[consulate surveillance]] and another is [[aetherstorm roc]]. I also have a [[decoction module]] and an [[aethersquall ancient]] that seem pretty cool, and could go with my plan with a little work.

My question is, when it comes to energy counters in EDH, are they kind of a lost cause? Are there enough other good cards to give me a feeling that energy counters are a part of my deck?

I was hoping either anyone with experience would tell me what they thought, else someone else might say why they think it's a bad idea.

Thanks.
