An interesting turn of events

So, during the first playthrough of the game, I married the beautiful artsy redhead Leah during Spring of Year 2. Getting her to 10 hearts was pretty easy; visiting her cottage to give her a salad twice a week was pretty easy. I actually got her to 10 hearts pretty close to the end of Fall Year 1; unfortunately, I didn't get any rain until the next year.

But for my current playthrough, I decided I'd go after Abigail. I think that she's also attractive, especially with the portrait mod I use; but more importantly, she resembles my IRL girlfriend, with her affinity for video games and the color purple.

In the spring, I mostly gave her flowers I foraged; in the summer, I gifted her gold star pufferfish aplenty. But in the fall, I managed to get her to eight hearts by just gifting her the Amethysts my Crystalarium was generating.

But on Fall 13th, the stars aligned.

In the morning, I stepped outside into the rain and checked my mailbox to find two letters: One was from Abigail, asking me to come to her room late at night; the other was from her """father,""" Pierre, sent me a letter about bouquets. Little did he know who I intended to give it to...

I fished by the river while I waited for Pierre to open the door at nine o'clock. I immediately purchased a bouquet, threw open the door in the back, and barged right into Abigail's room to present it.

"You want to get more serious?" she asked. "I feel the same way."

Ah, but the story doesn't end there. Things were going to become a lot more serious than just flowers.

I then realized something - it was her birthday! I immediately thrust a plump-looking Amethyst into her arms, which she lovingly accepted. I then heard a notification sound - I earned the "best friend" in-game achievement! Her birthday present was enough to jump from eight to ten hearts in the blink of an eye.

And yet, we're still not done.

I had another startling realization.

It's raining.

I immediately did a 180 degree turn and made a beeline to the beach as my new girlfriend began crunching on the purple quartz. I handed the elusive Mariner my five thousand gold in exchange for the Mermaid's Pendant, a transaction that I waited far too long for in my Leah-chasing playthrough.

I ran back into her home and entered the kitchen, where she was washing a few small bits of minerals off her plate. I tapped her on the shoulder, and presented her with the amulet.

"I accept!" she exclaimed, much to the surprise of her mother, who was standing only a few feet away.

She giggled with glee. "Me? Married? I never thought this would happen."

Well, Abby, neither did I. Not this soon, anyway.

tl;dr: Abigail became my girlfriend on the first possible opportunity, which happened to be her birthday... and then I bought a Mermaid's pendant and proposed to her on the same day.
