YA fantasy book, I read in early 80s- girls eyes turn silver

NOT "The Girl with the Silver Eyes"

It was a brother and sister and they find a door/maybe in a hedge or a rock that leads to an alternate world with elves/dwarves (?) and when they are in this other world, they gain powers and their eyes start turning silver.
