[Event] Thailand Changes Name to Mueang Thai
Today, the Thai Senate passed a major bill that will change the name in all languages and official documents, including English, to the Republic of Mueang Thai, the native and colloquial name. It represents the vastly increased measure of nationalism ingrained into the Thai spirit. People are proud again to be of the free and prosperous nation of Mueang Thai.
The name will be used in exchange with Prathet Thai, the more proper and official name, literally meaning "Thai Country". The move is supported by all countries, and has been signed into law by President Yingluck Shinawatra.
Prachathipthy Square has seen non-stop celebration as the country "regains its name, history, and heritage." Even the rival NSP is praising the move, with some even going so far to say it is the best thing the President has done for the nation.
A new flag has been announced by President Yingluck Shinawatra and the Senate as well. The golden yellow represents the unity of the Thai people as it is on the Shan state flag, the agricultural prowess of Mueung Thai, and our strong economy, while the green represents the powerful military and vast greenery of our nation. The blue stands for the Mekong River, the sky representing unlimited opportunities for the Thai people, and our dedication to world and regional peace. Finally, the red sun is for the emergence of Mueang Thai, a "new dawn" and the blood shed to bring the Thai people to true freedom.
