My opinion about Semmler
I posted a version of the comment below in the Semmler's trying too hard thread, and figured I'd make a post about it for exposure and, moreover, since I haven't seen my opinion expressed.
The problem with Semmler is his play-by-play; it feels very rigid and dry. DDK and Henry would also be dry if they did play-by-play, but that's the thing: they don't. They focus on adding details and painting the picture of the game and playing off of their co-commentator. Anders and Semmler tend to change up who's colour and play-by-play, and Semmler's just not a good play-by-play. If he just stuck to playing off of Anders' occasional humour and just being a colour commentator in general, or improved his play-by-play, a lot of the hate going their way would stop.
His stylistic approach when he does play-by-play is the classic, rigid, sports commentator approach. I feel like the eSports/internet generation is not into it (I personally find the humour dry), as opposed to sports fans from the older generations, hence why it works for sports commentators.
